September 2024 Music Department Update

09.01.24 | Articles, Music | by Matthew Swingle

    Hello Faith Family –

Psalm 100: 4 – Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.

On behalf of the Faith Lutheran Concert Series and the featured Guest Artists from this past season, I would like to express my gratitude for your support and patronage for the 2023-2024 concert season. Each event saw over 200% growth in attendance, and word-of-mouth of our programs has continued to spread throughout the outside community. All thanks to your encouragement and promotion of our church and its ministries.

I wanted to take this opportunity to officially announce the Faith Lutheran Concert Series 2024-2025 performance line-up. We will have some exciting, NEW types of events, and we will heavily feature our recently purchased 9-foot Steinway Concert Grand Piano. Our FLCS 2024-2025 performance series is:

Nov 22 Piano Concert featuring International Steinway Piano Artist, Teresa Walters

Dec 15 Annual Christmas Concert: “Faithfully Christmas” Brass & Organ Concert

Feb 12 “Bach’s Lunch” lunch-time recital featuring a local SWFL guest musician

Mar 4 Nuclear Jazz Ensemble with a Fat Tuesday Pancake Dinner

Apr 25 Piano Concert feauturing international concert pianists, Duo Beaux

May 14 “Bach’s Lunch” lunch-time recital featuring a local SWFL guest musician

I am truly excited for this year’s concert series, especially the jazz concert with an FLC-sponsored Pancake Dinner in celebration of Fat Tuesday traditions. Fat Tuesday, always celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday, is the Mardi Gras finale. The name itself is French for Fat Tuesday — “mardi” is the word for Tuesday and “gras” is the word for fat. Fat Tuesday, also called Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday, marks the last day of feasts and over-the-top celebrations before the fasting that is associated with Lent. So, what better way to commemorate Shrove Tuesday with some jazz and pancakes!

I also want to take this opportunity to ask that you prayerfully consider becoming a Friend of Music and financially supporting our church’s concert series. We are so blessed to live in Southwest Florida, with the ever-present support and love for the arts. It is through your patronage and contributions which allows our church and its leaders to provide these gifts of music and art. Our concert series has been this successful due to your patronage and your gifts. Let us continue this success and continue to make an impact to the greater community of southwest Florida. Please come see me directly, and I will get you the information for you to become a Friend of Music.

All dates and times for the concert series will be posted to the church’s Facebook and website event pages. ALSO!! Choir rehearsals begin on September 19 at 6pm! Let us fill up the loft with your beautiful voices. I just know you would look great with a choir robe on and a choir book in hand!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again for our next season!

    Blessings,
    Matthew
