The True Christmas

“Who among us will celebrate Christmas correctly? Whoever finally lays down all power, all honor, all reputation, all vanity, all arrogance, all individualism beside the manger; whoever remains lowly and lets God alone be high; whoever looks at the child in the manger and sees the glory of God precisely in His lowliness.”
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer-
I want Christmas to be right.
I want Christmas to be true.
I want Christmas to be real.
I want Christmas kept.
I want the songs.
I want the trimmings.
I want it exactly how it’s always been done.
I want it back.
It’s nothing if I don’t have these things.
I want Christmas now.
…until…
I don’t
get it, keep it, hold it, replay it, experience it perfectly as I want.
Alas, why aren’t my standards met?
From others…from myself…
…until…
The Right standard became true
The True standard became real
The Real standard was kept
“Glory to God in highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!”
A stone was carved to feed His creatures, a means for where His body was placed to rest
Perhaps but a foretaste?
That’s exactly how He wanted it to be done.
…and by that…
He has called me back.
I’m nothing if I don’t have Him.
Indeed I count everything as loss because of the eternal worth of knowing Him.
For His Name I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may
gain Him
be found in Him
not having His great gift by my efforts
but because He gave it and I keep it to
Know Him
See Him
Be like Him
…until..
The true Christmas comes again
