WOF July 23

07.01.23 | Articles, Women of Faith

    Dear Church Family,

Last school year, with your help, the WOF supported Calusa Park Elementary School with needed school supplies. We also helped them to connect with the Laces of Love Program. Both were very helpful to the students and the staff was very thankful.

This year we have chosen Shadowlawn Elementary School to support by donating school supplies, personal hygiene products and lice kits. The teachers are currently revising the specific needs for the students in K-6th grade. As soon as I receive the information, it will be on the table across from the Discipleship Room. The collection boxes will also be at the table.

We would like to collect these items during the month of July and deliver everything prior to school starting in August. We will also support them through the Undie Sunday program.

We were very thankful for your support last year on this project and hope you will continue to support us this year. We want the children to know how important they are and we want to help them. It is a blessing that we are able to show the light and love that Jesus has for us all!

    God’s Blessings,

    Mary Ellen Martin
    President of WOF

Patty Wood’s Mission Trip to Nepal Report

This was a very touching trip since I was able to meet and spend time with so many in the documentary trailer that was shown at church the Sunday before I departed. Dr. Karysse and I met the rest of the Canopy Global Nepal Outreach Team in Doha, where we bonded and prayed for the upcoming days of service. We flew to Katmandu, and were greeted by Peter, the producer of the Documentary, Helambu and his two adopted daughters. They were both well versed in English so they were also our translators throughout the trip. We settled in at our Hotel and the woman who owned this establishment also is the creator of Tsering’s Fund (named after her) which is funded for keeping young women safe from early marriage or becoming sex trafficked. We got to meet many young college girls who escaped this horrific life by continuing their education through sponsorship. We had dinner with them at the Hotel and got to love on so many of these precious young women. We traveled by jeep to reach the Helambu region where we would stay and serve in many different capacities. On the way we made several stops to different villages to deliver medical supplies and Dr. Karysse met with the nurse to share about Women’s health. One village was where we met Grandma, who raised Maya and her brother and kept them safe. It was very emotional to visit Maya’s village. We came to a washed out bridge so in order to cross we had to fill a small cable car to pulley our luggage, medical supplies, the refridgerator and us across the great expanse, quite exciting!!! We came to our destination where Mr. Purna and his wife hosted us for the time spent in Helambu. Each day we prayed and sang in Mr. Purna’s home. We visited the school’s morning assembly and toured the school where the kids learned much more than academics. English was taught there along with life lessons such as laundry, housekeeping and much more. We were impressed to say the least. Dr. Karysee spoke at the assembly and the next day she was able to speak with the 10 year girls and older about Women’s health. The health post in the area also received medical supplies, monitor that was installed, electrical outlets installed, and the refidgerator. Dr. Peter ran a dental clinic while there and Dr. Karysse saw patients also during our stay. She had another Women’s Health clinic with the nurse at this Health Post also. We were also able to do a complete makeover of the examination area. On the last day we were there I assisted at the dental clinic and met 4 teenage boys all needing dental work. We chatted at they waited to see the dentist and the asked about my cross necklace, if I was a Christian? I was able to share my faith with them and the Gospel and I and another team member gave our Bibles to them also. We all said the Lord’s Prayer together and they said their parents allowed them to choose their beliefs. The next day we made our way back down the mountain to cable car across the river and jeep back to Katmandu, to prepare for our journey back home. This was such a life changing adventure, I encourage others to experience the blessings of being a part of God’s hands and feet on a mission trip!!!

    In Jesus Love. Patty Wood
